Shadow Singha Mawynn's journey to championship contention began with defeat, but the 25-year-old Thai striker believes that early setback provided the foundation for his interim title opportunity against Nico Carrillo at ONE Fight Night 40 on February 14.
The Singha Mawynn representative will challenge for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship at Lumpinee Stadium, an opportunity created after reigning champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai's injury opened the door for interim gold.
Shadow expressed disbelief at receiving such a significant opportunity so quickly in his main roster career.
"When I found out it was going to be an interim World Championship match, I was super excited. I had never expected to be in such a big fight. Even though it is an interim, it's still great for many," Shadow said.
The Thai fighter's promotional journey started inauspiciously with a unanimous decision loss in his ONE Friday Fights debut in 2024.
That defeat could have derailed his momentum before it began, but Shadow responded by winning every subsequent Muay Thai bout, eventually securing the six-figure main roster contract through consistent excellence.
His 6-2 promotional record with three finishes reflects steady improvement that has positioned him for the biggest fight of his career against the 27-year-old Carrillo.
Shadow has prepared extensively for the physical challenge presented by the Scottish knockout artist.
"Nico's strengths include his physical strength, his large size, and his very powerful fists and elbows. As a fighter, he is really skilled, equipped with a 100 percent [finishing] rate because he has knocked out almost every single opponent," the Thai fighter observed.
The scouting report acknowledges Carrillo's perfect finishing record across six promotional victories, each ending via knockout through the Scottish fighter's devastating power.
Shadow's path from debut loss to interim title contention required mental resilience that he believes defines his career trajectory.
"Looking back to the day I stepped into ONE, I lost in the first match. None of the opponents were easy. It might be because of my determination that brought me into this stage. Since I am here now, there's no way back. I got to keep going forward," Shadow reflected.
