World Boxing Championships 2025:Jaismine Lamboria Defeats Romeu to Enter Quarter

India’s Jaismine Lamboria advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships 2025 with a commanding win over Brazil’s two-time Olympian Jucielen Cerqueira Romeu on Monday.

The World Boxing Cup Astana gold medallist dominated all three rounds to claim a 5-0 verdict. The bout was a rematch of the Astana final, where Jaismine had also prevailed in a closely fought contest. With the victory in Liverpool, she is now just one win away from securing a world championships medal.

India’s Abhinash Jamwal, a World Boxing Cup silver medallist, also kept his campaign alive with a 5-0 win against Mexico’s Hugo Barron in the men’s 65kg second round.

However, it was the end of the road for two Indian boxers. Sakshi lost 0-5 to Turkey’s Hatice Akba in the women’s 54kg round of 16, while Sanamacha Chanu suffered a 0-5 defeat to Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in the women’s 70kg division.

Four more Indian boxers will compete later on Monday for quarterfinal berths: Sachin (men’s 60kg) against Kazakhstan’s Biibars Zhexen, Sumit (men’s 75kg) against Bulgaria’s Rami Kiwan, Narender (men’s 90+kg) against Italy’s Diego Lenzi, and Neeraj Phogat (women’s 65kg) against England’s Sacha Hickey.
