ONE Fight Night 36 took place on October 3 in Bangkok, Thailand, featuring championship kickboxing and the retirement fight of a legendary MMA competitor.
Italian-Canadian fighter Jonathan Di Bella captured the undisputed ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship by defeating Prajanchai PK Saenchai via unanimous decision. Di Bella, who entered as the interim champion, used his reach and movement to control distance throughout the five-round contest.
The challenger dominated early rounds by landing jabs and left hands while preventing Prajanchai from establishing his preferred close-range boxing. Low kicks added to Prajanchai's frustration as he struggled to implement his game plan against Di Bella's length and mobility.
Prajanchai adjusted in rounds three and four, discovering gaps in Di Bella's defense to land hooks and straight punches. Both fighters exchanged signature techniques during the championship rounds, including Prajanchai's step-in knees and Di Bella's spinning kicks, but the Italian-Canadian maintained higher volume output.
Judges awarded Di Bella the decision, giving him his 15th professional victory against one loss. The win reversed his sole career defeat, which came against Prajanchai in their first meeting. ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong awarded Di Bella a US$50,000 performance bonus.
The co-main event marked the final MMA appearance for Aung La N Sang, Myanmar's first world champion. The 40-year-old former two-division titleholder stopped Sweden's Zebaztian Kadestam at 2:20 of round two in their middleweight bout.
After a measured opening round, Aung La N Sang increased his aggression in the second frame, landing punches and knees that visibly affected Kadestam. The finish came via ground strikes after Kadestam was hurt along the ropes. The stoppage gave Aung La N Sang his 31st career win and a US$50,000 bonus.
ONE Championship subsequently announced Aung La N Sang's induction into the promotion's Hall of Fame, scheduled for ONE 173 in Tokyo, Japan, on November 16.
