Jonathan Haggerty Withdraws From ONE 173 After Suffering Injury

British striker Jonathan Haggerty has been ruled out of ONE 173 following a devastating

sequence of injuries that ended his preparation for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title bout against Nabil Anane on 16 November.

The former two-sport ONE World Champion shared the heartbreaking news through a video message on social media, detailing how his Thailand training camp unravelled in the final weeks before the scheduled title challenge.

Three weeks ago, Haggerty injured his left hand during training, an injury severe enough to require eight stitches. Just when recovery seemed possible, disaster struck again the following week when he tore his rotator cuff. Medical scans revealed the full severity of the damage, leaving no option but withdrawal.

The 28-year-old former ONE Flyweight and Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion struggled to hide his disappointment in the video announcement.

"Devastated. Heartbroken, to say the least, you know. I did everything I possibly could this camp to be the best version of myself come fight night. We left no stone unturned. I've had the greatest team around me, the greatest sparring partners that needed for this fight," Haggerty stated.

Despite the setback, the London-based fighter remains fixated on eventually facing the 21-year-old ONE World Champion.

"Also, I just wanna say there's not anybody in the division that I wanna fight more than Nabil Anane. So hopefully, we can reschedule the fight. My main focus is now recovery and getting back on track," he added.

The injury withdrawal has prompted a complete reshuffling of Anane's fight plans. The 6-foot-4 Thai-Algerian striker from Team Mehdi Zatout will now compete at featherweight instead, facing former three-time K-1 Champion Hiromi Wajima in a kickboxing clash.

Anane brings a 40-5 striking record to this new matchup after making his promotional debut at just 19 years old as the youngest-ever WBC Muay Thai World Champion.

The 30-year-old Wajima steps in with 22 career wins, 18 by knockout, giving the Japanese multi-time K-1 Champion a golden opportunity at ONE 173.
