ONE 162: Zhang vs. Di Bella saw the emergence of fresh top contenders and the crowning of a new ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Fortunes may have changed for many at the 21 October event, but let’s look at what could be next for three of the stars that stunned on that night.

Jonathan Di Bella Vs. Demetrious Johnson/Joseph Lasiri

Jonathan Di Bella made his promotional debut in the main event of ONE 162, where he defeated Chinese phenom Zhang Peimian for the vacant ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship.

Since claiming the strawweight throne, he has yet to call out anybody, but a crossover bout with ONE Flyweight World Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson excites the newly crowned champion.

Another name that intrigues Di Bella is fellow striker and reigning ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Joseph Lasiri. Di Bella will no doubt cast his eyes on Lasiri’s upcoming bout with Rodtang Jitmuangnon for the latter’s ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.

Eko Roni Saputra Vs. A Top-Fiver

Of all the dark horses currently in ONE Championship, Eko Roni Saputra may just be the biggest of them all.

With his submission win of Yodkaikaew Fairtex at ONE 162, Saputra took home his seventh straight finish and a US$50K bonus.

Quietly working his way up the rankings to tougher opposition, Saputra could see himself battling the likes of top-ranked flyweights in Reece McLaren or Danny Kingad.

Constantin Rusu Vs. Regian Eersel

Not only did Constantin Rusu shock Islam Murtazaev on Friday night, but he surprised the ONE lightweight kickboxing division when he stepped up on such short notice to dispatch his Russian adversary over the course of three rounds.

Even with a win on short notice, Rusu toppled the recent ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title challenger in impressive fashion.

On merit alone, he may find himself standing across from the new double-champ in Regian Eersel in what would make for a fight full of fireworks.
