Muay Thai has been officially included in the sports program for the 2025 Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Bahrain from Oct. 22 to 31, marking a significant milestone for the combat sport.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) confirmed the addition, recognizing Muay Thai’s growing influence across the continent. The sport, also known as Muay, is widely practiced in Southeast Asia and beyond under the governance of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan hailed the decision as a testament to the organization’s commitment to youth development. “This inclusion highlights the success of IFMA’s global initiatives, which not only promote sport but also foster cultural and educational exchange,” he said.
H.E. Abdullah Al Neyadi, president of the Federation of Asian Muaythai Associations (FAMA), expressed gratitude to the OCA and the Bahrain National Olympic Committee (NOC), led by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He emphasized that Muay Thai’s participation would enhance the Games and provide young athletes a chance to compete on a prestigious stage.
With more than 40 member nations, FAMA continues to advocate for gender equality and inclusivity in the sport, ensuring representation across Asia.
“This is a historic achievement dedicated to the youth of Asia,” IFMA said in a statement.
The 2025 Asian Youth Games will feature multiple sports, bringing together young athletes from across the continent to compete at an elite level.
