Molly McCann Retires After Submission Loss to Alexia Thainara

Alexia Thainara made a statement in her UFC debut, securing a first-round submission win over Molly McCann at UFC London in what became the final fight of McCann’s career.

Stepping in on short notice, the Brazilian fighter wasted no time, scoring an early takedown before taking McCann’s back and locking in a rear-naked choke. McCann fought to defend but was forced to tap in the closing moments of the opening round.

As Thainara celebrated her victory, McCann removed her gloves and addressed the London crowd, officially announcing her retirement.

"UFC, Dana [White], Hunter [Campbell], Mick [Maynard], fcking I love all of yous," McCann said. "I give you all my fcking heart and soul.

"It’s not good enough. The UFC deserves more. I deserve more. You all deserve more. Thank you and good night, UFC."

McCann exits the sport with a 14-8 record, including a 7-7 run in the UFC. Her teammate and friend Paddy Pimblett was seen teary-eyed in the crowd as she made her announcement.

Thainara showcased her grappling dominance from the start, quickly securing a takedown despite McCann landing short elbows from the bottom. After passing into side control and transitioning to the back, Thainara nearly locked in the choke before McCann initially defended. However, the Brazilian adjusted her grip moments later, securing the submission for a decisive finish.

"This is Alexia delivery," Thainara said after her victory. "The UFC has the best matchmakers. I came, I saw, I delivered."
