MMA Officially Included in 2026 Asian Games

The Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA), founded in December 2022, has successfully secured MMA's inclusion in the 2026 Asian Games, set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The decision was unanimously approved during the 93rd Asian Olympic Council (OCA) Executive Committee meeting in Harbin, China.

MMA at the 2026 Asian Games will feature six weight classes for both men and women, divided into Traditional MMA and Modern MMA. Traditional MMA allows the use of uniforms and includes grappling and throws, while Modern MMA mandates rash guards and shorts.

MMA at the Games will feature six weight classes:

  • Men’s Modern MMA – 60 kg, 71 kg
  • Men’s Traditional MMA – 65 kg, 70 kg
  • Women’s Modern MMA – 54 kg
  • Women’s Traditional MMA – 60 kg

Competitors will wear mouthguards, 4-ounce gloves, and shin guards, with male fighters additionally using a blindfold guard. This marks a significant step for MMA, which was previously unaffiliated with the Asian Games.

AMMA's achievement comes just over two years after its establishment, demonstrating rapid growth and recognition. The inclusion of MMA at the Asian Games aligns with OCA’s vision to expand emerging combat sports on the international stage.
