MMA India to host National level referee and Judge Certification program

The MMA India Federation is set to host a national-level MMA referee and judge certification program at UFC Gym in Punjabi Bhag, Delhi.

The seminar will be conducted by MMA India President Sharif Bapu and MMA India General Secretary Prasad Gaitonde. Both the officials are IMMAF Certified International referees and judges with almost a decade of experience officiating MMA.

The duo has a wealth of experience in officiating amateur and professional MMA bouts including the bouts at the IMMAF World Championship, and IMMAF European Open along with promotions like Underground Fight Night, and Fight of Knights, Super Fight League, and BRAVE Combat Federation among others.

Speaking exclusively to LockerRoom, Prasad Gaitonde noted that the 2-day course has a lot to offer.

“This is not just any ordinary course, we have spent lot of time and done thorough research to develop this module. Based on our experience we have kept in consideration minute to minute details in point of a person who might be new to sports or existing player or MMA official who want to upgrade his knowledge,” he noted.

He also broke down how the workshop will cover theory as well as practical sessions.

“Theory involves Ppt, A/V presentation of Officiating if not limited to technicalities, rules, detail explanation of point system, video examples, mindset of Judge and referee, Code of conduct, role of referee (position in cage, decision making, dealing with fouls, point deduction). In the practical session, we demonstrate the various scenarios in cages and deal with them. This session is followed by examination,” Prasad added.

How to apply for the MMA India Judge and Referee Course as per MMA India

  • The course is open to MMA INDIA Members or willing to associate with MMA INDIA
  • Anyone who’s entirely beginner to MMA will go through the crash course on technicalities.
  • Anyone with knowledge of MMA will join & complete the same course but will be certified only for judging, He will be under observation for one year. They may continue to do refereeing at interclub-level events. Based on his progress he will be graded to referee in future.
  • Experienced officials may appear for both the certification exam after the course. He will be under strict observation for initial officiating and by 1 year based on his performance, he/she will be graded for Pro.
  • Examinations are strict and one has to score above 80% to clear the program.

The officials who attend the course, based on consistency and improvement, will get to officiate in various National Level events. Experienced officials fulling certain criteria may get the opportunity to in international events of IMMAF and Fight Night events in India.
