World Boxing Championships 2025: Minakshi, Jaismine Win Gold as India Registers

Indian women boxers delivered their best-ever overseas performance at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, with Minakshi and Jaismine Lamboria claiming gold medals on Sunday. Nupur secured silver, while veteran Pooja Rani earned a bronze, marking a historic outing for India.

Jaismine opened India's gold medal tally with a commanding 4-1 victory over Paris Olympics silver medalist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the women's 57kg category. Minakshi followed with a 4-1 win of her own in the women’s 48kg final against three-time world champion and Paris Olympics bronze medalist Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan.

Competing in their first-ever world championship finals, both Minakshi and Jaismine showcased composure and control, overcoming seasoned opponents without showing any signs of pressure.

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh praised the team’s performance, attributing the success to recent reforms and an athlete-first approach.

“The performances in Liverpool, where our women boxers defeated some of the world’s best, underline that Indian boxing is on a decisive upward curve,” Singh said. “These results validate the athlete-first policies we have implemented. This success gives us the confidence to push ahead with further reforms and initiatives to empower our athletes. These women boxers are our future Olympic champions.”

Nupur came close to adding another gold in the women’s 80+kg final but fell short in a tight 3-2 decision against Poland’s Agama Kaczmarska, a multiple-time European championships medalist.

In the women’s 80kg semifinal, Pooja Rani earned bronze after a 1-4 loss to England’s Emily Asquith.

India’s strong showing came at the inaugural World Championships organized by the newly formed World Boxing body, setting a new benchmark for the nation in international women’s boxing.
