Matrix Fight Night returned with MFN 14 on 9 March 2024. Matrix Fight Night 14 is in the books and saw Sanjeet Budhwar getting a knockout win over Abdul Azim Badakhshi when Chungreng Koren was crowned the interim MFN Bantamweight champion.

Aminder Bisht and Ishika Thite get finishes

The Opening fight of the event saw Aminder Bisht picking up a huge win. The Mutant MMA fighter was able to stop Arsenba Ozukum of The Combat Academy Nagaland in the second round itself. The lone women’s fight on the card did not last long as Ishika Thite was able to get a RNC submission win over Tenzin Pema. Ishika had the upper hand early on and capitalized on the same by locking in a rear-naked choke which forced Pema to tap. After the fight, Ishika noted that her father was in her corner and that she was not losing this fight.

The fight between Pravin Wagh and Balveer Singh Tomar, two fighters who were making their promotional debut in MFN proved to be a battle in stand-up.

Decision win for Pravin Wagh and returning Kapil Kumar

Balveer almost got a stoppage at the end of the second round only to see Parvin recover. The fight went the distance and the decision was ruled in favour of Pravin Wagh via a majority decision. The promotional debut of Ajay Payal ended in a defeat as Kapil Kumar was able to get a win on his resume despite a point deduction. Kapil, who was making his return to MFN after a short gap, had a point deducted from him after an illegal knee but dominated through the three rounds to take home a decision win.

Wins for Indian Fighters

Chris Tibenda and Sahil Rana had an explosive start to their fight. After almost a finish in the opening sequence, the fight almost ended midway through the first round when Sahil dropped Tibenda. It was one-way traffic for Sahil afterwards in the round as he was causing problems for his opponent with his striking. The Tanzanian fighter was on survival mode in the second round which saw a huge cut opening above his eye. A similar story unfolded in the third round as well but a finish eluded Sahil Rana but he took a decision win in the end.

The India vs. Afghanistan showdown featuring Azim Mokhlis and Owais Yaqoob had its fair share of moments. The cage pressure game of Owais worked in his favour in the first two rounds when Azim was having success in striking. Owais had success with his grappling in the third round as well which in turn gave him the decision win.

Neeraj Panghal and Dushyant Singh pick up decision wins

Akib Ali and Neeraj Panghal proved to be an exciting fight before Akib Ali slowed down after taking some damage to his leg in the second round. Akib’s movement was compromised after this and despite this challenge, Akib was able to survive till the end of the fight although he lost on points. The fight between Mairidin Newmai and Dushyant Singh proved to be a game of chess. Both fighters were looking to outclass each other technically which gave the fans a fight worth tuning into. The top control of Dushyant gave him the upper hand in the end after three rounds and gave him the decision win.

Chungreng Koren becomes Interim Bantamweight Champion

The Co-main event of the night delivered as advertised. The first round saw Chungreng Koren having success with his grappling. The strength of Chungreng proved to be the difference in the second round as well and the Manipuri fighter showcased pure dominance. Farhad was seen surviving the round. In the third round, Chungreng continued his onslaught and dominance on the ground but was unable to find the finish.

Chungreng’s search for a stoppage finally materialized in the fourth round when the referee stopped the fight after a flurry of unanswered punches from Chungreng Koren. Chungreng has now setup a possible unification fight with current Bantamweight Champion Pakistan’s Uloomi Karim who interestingly had a knockout loss against Farhad outside Matrix Fight Night.

Sanjeet Budhwar knocks out Abdul Azim Badakhshi

The main event between Sanjeet Budhwar and Abdul Azim Badakhshi had a dramatic first round as there were two time outs. The first one happened due to a groin strike from Badakhshi and the second happened after an eye poke from the Afghan towards the closing seconds of the first round.

The second round saw more action as Sanjeet Budhwar was able to wobble his Afghan opponent. Sanjeet then went on to finish Abdul with a knockout to secure a win in the main event of MFN 14. The Featherweight title, however, is currently vacant as Sanjeet missed weight ahead of the fight. You can see the complete results from the event below.
