Magomed Magomedov has never fought inside the ONE ring, and he is making his debut as the headliner. The undefeated Dagestan-born fighter faces Lucas Gabriel in the main event of ONE Fight Night 49 on Saturday, November 7, live in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 15-0 star, who represents KHK Dagestan, is a Master of Sport in MMA and studied economics at university. His story began far from any arena, in a Dagestani family whose backing has stayed constant throughout his career.
“I grew up in Dagestan in an ordinary family. My parents have always supported me and my sporting career. Their support means a lot to me,” he said.
His martial arts journey started at 16, sparked by a movie. Magomedov watched Fight Without Rules, and curiosity turned into action when he learned that an MMA gym existed in Kizlyar, the town where he was living.
“I started training in MMA at the age of 16. My interest in martial arts began after I watched the film Fight Without Rules. Later, I found out that there was an MMA gym in Kizlyar, where I was living at the time, and decided to give the sport a try. That was how my journey in martial arts began,” he explained.
Through all of it, Magomedov has stayed unbeaten, and now that record faces its toughest examination. Across the ring stands Gabriel, 26, the Brazilian from Phuket Fight Club who owns an 11-1 career record and a 5-0 ONE slate. He has stepped into the promotion six times, though one of his victories was later ruled a no contest.
Not every chapter has been about progress. Magomedov lost his brother in 2019, an experience he describes as the hardest period of his life.
“The most difficult period of my life was losing my brother in 2019. It was a very painful event for me and my family,” he added.
