Lucas Gabriel has two things driving him into the ring on November 7 – his family back in Brazil, and a ONE World Title he has not yet claimed.
The ONE contender faces promotional newcomer Magomed Magomedov in the lightweight MMA main event of ONE Fight Night 49, live from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, with a potential title shot waiting for whoever makes the stronger statement.
The 26-year-old brings a 5-0 ONE slate and an 11-1 career record into the main event, having established himself as one of the most consistent lightweights in the promotion. But behind the record is a father who draws his deepest motivation from a 4-year-old girl named Maite.
“My daughter is the biggest joy in my life. And I do love spending my free time with my family. We enjoy having picnics, which my daughter absolutely loves, and going to the beach,” he said.
Based in Phuket, Thailand, Gabriel carries the distance from his Brazilian roots with him every day. The pull of home and the family he left behind to chase his dreams is a feeling that never fully goes away.
“If I could just travel tomorrow without a worry in the world, I’d go to Brazil to visit my family and let them spend time with my daughter,” he explained.
Standing across from him is Magomedov, 31, a Bahraini fighter making his ONE debut in the most high-profile fashion imaginable. The unbeaten 15-0 contender steps straight into a main event slot against one of the division’s most in-form fighters.
For Gabriel, the stakes of this fight extend well beyond anything. This is about building a legacy that means something, not just to him but to everyone watching from back home.
“My biggest goal is to become a World Champion and leave my mark on the sport. I want to be remembered as the best and most well-rounded fighter. I want my career to mean something and to be recognized for everything I’ve accomplished inside the cage,” he added.
