“It’s The Fight I Need” – Liam Nolan Reveals Motivating Factors Behind Nauzet Trujillo Rematch At ONE Fight Night 31

"Lethal" Liam Nolan is determined to settle the score with Nauzet Trujillo when he breaks his short-lived retirement for a lightweight Muay Thai rematch on May 3 at ONE Fight Night 31: Kongthoranee vs. Nong-O II. 

The British striker fell short against Trujillo in their February 2024 clash at ONE Fight Night 19, suffering multiple injuries including a broken hand, broken nose, and a swollen eye during their intense battle. 

Despite these setbacks, Nolan specifically requested this rematch that will take place at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, viewing it as a crucial step in his career journey. 

"I wanted this fight. It's the fight I need in order to move forward. I have to get this one done. Everyone wants to fight for the title, but how can I say that if I can't beat Trujillo," Nolan said. 

The 26-year-old Englishman acknowledges that his aggressive approach may have cost him in their first encounter. 

"In the first round, I think I pushed a little too hard and was too eager to get the knockout. I should've shown some restraint and fought smart," Nolan said. 

After announcing retirement earlier this year, Nolan returns with renewed focus following personal encouragement from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong. 

Despite his improvements, Nolan remains respectful of the challenge Trujillo presents. 

"I respect him a lot for taking this fight because he could've just said no as he's beaten me once already. But I'm excited to get this one back," Nolan said. 

A victory would potentially place Nolan back among top contenders for the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title. It places even higher emphasis on returning in style. 

ONE Fight Night 31 will be broadcast live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Select 2 at 5:30 a.m. India Standard Time (IST) on Saturday, May 3.
