Muay Thai veteran Liam Harrison has weighed in on the potential matchup between Jonathan Haggerty and Nico Carrillo.
But sadly, he suggests that the size difference might be too significant to make this fight happen.
"I'm not bothered about it anymore. Nico is twice the size of Jonathan Haggerty now that he's moved up to featherweight. Did you see how big he looked versus Sitthichai? Wow," Harrison said.
Harrison's comments highlight the physical disparity between the two fighters, with Carrillo's move to featherweight creating what Harrison sees as a substantial advantage. The fighter was particularly impressed with Carrillo's performance against Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong.
"[Carrillo] looked like an animal against Sitthichai, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he does there. Jon's bantamweight through and through. So I think the ship has sailed now," the Brit said.
Despite his belief that a direct matchup may not materialize, Harrison remains optimistic about both fighters' futures in their respective divisions.
The Muay Thai legend expressed disappointment that the match was a missed opportunity for what could have been a marquee fight between the two talents in England. However, he still feels like ONE could stack the deck with a debut event in the UK.
"I have no idea how it works, but I think they had an incredible chance with Jonathan Haggerty versus Nico Carrillo, which didn't come to fruition. Even without that now, I still think there's the chance to build an incredible card," Harrison said.
Looking ahead, Harrison sees tremendous potential for a UK-focused ONE Championship event, featuring himself alongside other British standouts.
"I could fight, the Haggerty brothers could fight, Nico can too. So could George Jarvis and Liam Nolan. The talent is all there, and they could do serious numbers. I just don't know how long it takes to make moves like that. But I hope they can do that before I retire," Harrison said.
Harrison is eager to see ONE capitalize on the growing UK talent pool in combat sports before his own fighting career comes to a close. With a global roster of elite talent, the global expansion could soon see ONE land in the UK.
