Indian Boxing Team Begins Sheffield Training Camp Ahead of World Championships

A 27-member Indian boxing contingent has arrived in Sheffield, United Kingdom, for a high-intensity training camp ahead of the World Boxing Championships, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) announced Tuesday.

The squad includes nine male and eight female boxers, supported by eight coaches and two staff members. They will be joined by one male and two female boxers, along with an additional staff member, by August 28.

The camp is being held at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, one of the UK’s top high-performance centers, and provides Indian boxers with sparring and training opportunities against leading international athletes. The team will move to Liverpool on September 2 for the final phase of preparations before the Championships.

The men’s team is under the guidance of coaches Dharmender Yadav, Torak Kharpran, Jai Singh Patil and Abhishek Sah. The women’s squad is being coached by Chandralal, Mohammed Aitesamuddin, Geeta Chanu and Radia Devi.

According to BFI, sending the team in advance and making them part of the international camp is aimed at ensuring the boxers adapt to conditions and gain exposure before competing on the global stage.
