Leon Edwards shocked the entire world at UFC 278 when he knocked out Kamaru Usman in the main event to become the UFC Welterweight champion.

Usman was reigning on top of the UFC Welterweight division successfully for a long time and the loss against Edwards has come across as a shocker to many. Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is no different.

The UFC Hall of Famer was asked about Usman’s loss in a recent interview and he noted that he was shocked just like everyone else.

“Well, I watched the UFC fights in the morning and I was shocked and even a little bit upset you could say. Because with Kamaru, I have very good relationship course it was tough to witness the best fighter in the world get sent with 50 seconds left until the end of the fight into a deep knockout,” Khabib noted on the video posted by Sambo Says on YouTube.

The Russian MMA superstar further went on to remind everyone how cruel the sport of MMA is. He noted that if you are not careful, you could wake up in the dressing room.

“I thought the fight would end primarily like it was going, like all Kamaru’s fights. But this is fighting, this is MMA and you saw it yourself. You miss one second and that is it. Don’t put your hand in the right place, don’t put the right defence in place, your lights can go out. You can wake up in the dressing room and everything is over,” Khabib added.

The former UFC Lightweight champion was also quizzed about the possibility of a trilogy fight between Usman and Edwards. Khabib raised doubts about the recovery of Usman but added that he would love to watch the third fight.

“Well, from what I know, they are already working on the trilogy and I believe that Kamaru can beat Leon Edwards. But after that kind of knockout many never recover. It will be interesting to see. I would with pleasure watch a third fight as they are one and one,” Khabib concluded.
