The Indian team for the upcoming Women’s Under-20 World Wrestling Championship in Bulgaria has been finalized following selection trials at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, where 42 young wrestlers competed for a spot. The 10-member squad features seven wrestlers from Haryana and three from Delhi, underscoring Haryana’s dominance in Indian wrestling. Among the standout names are Kajal from Sonipat, a gold medalist at the Under-17 Championship, who will compete in the 72kg category, and Neha Sangwan, who earned her place in the 59kg category. Officials present at the trials included Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh, Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, Treasurer S.P. Deshwal, Vice President Jaiprakash Pahalwan, and Haryana Wrestling Federation President Ramesh Bohar. Neha Sangwan Eyes Another Gold Neha Sangwan, from Charkhi Dadri district — the same village as the famed Phogat sisters — is considered one of India’s strongest medal contenders. She previously captured gold at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championship in Jordan and added another title at the World Ranking Series, defeating four top international opponents. Her father, Amit Kumar, and coach Sajjan Singh expressed confidence in her performance, saying they expect her to return from Bulgaria with another gold medal. Kajal Continues Golden Run Kajal, representing Sonipat in the 72kg division, is also seen as a major medal hopeful. She rose to prominence at the Junior Cadet Wrestling Asian Championship in Jordan and has a decorated career that includes 16 Bharat Kesari titles. Beginning her wrestling journey at age seven under her uncle Krishna’s guidance, she has also been crowned Haryana Kesari and Delhi Kesari twice each. The Women’s U20 World Wrestling Championship in Bulgaria will provide a global stage for these young Indian wrestlers to showcase their talent and continue India’s strong tradition in the sport.
