UFC Champion Joshua Van To Visit Mizoram In Historic First For Indian MMA

History is set to be made in Indian mixed martial arts as reigning UFC Flyweight champion Joshua Van is scheduled to visit Mizoram on May 30 for a special Fight Night event organized by the Mizoram State Mixed Martial Arts Association (MISMA), sanctioned by MMA India.

The visit will mark the first time a current UFC champion athlete travels to India, making it a landmark moment for the Indian MMA community and particularly for the rapidly growing combat sports scene in Northeast India.

The historic event will also be attended by the Hon’ble Sports Minister of Mizoram, further highlighting the significance of the occasion for the state’s sporting ecosystem.

Joshua Van, who has emerged as one of the biggest names in the UFC flyweight division, is expected to headline the celebrations surrounding the Fight Night event while inspiring the next generation of MMA athletes in the region.

Alongside the Fight Night, Mizoram will also host a three-day National-Level MMA Referee & Judge Seminar under the aegis of MISMA. The seminar is being viewed as another major step toward strengthening the technical and regulatory structure of MMA in India.

The seminar will feature two highly respected international MMA officials as resource persons:

  • Sharif Bapu, Senior Vice President of the Asian MMA Federation and member of the IMMAF Referee & Judge Commission
  • Prasad Gaitonde, General Secretary of MMA India and IMMAF International Referee & Judge

The initiative aims to educate and develop referees and judges across the country while enhancing officiating standards within Indian MMA.

The combined events are expected to significantly boost the profile of MMA in Mizoram and reinforce Northeast India’s reputation as one of the strongest hubs for combat sports talent in the country.
