Former UFC champion Jose Aldo feels that Charles Oliveira has what it takes to stop Islam Makhachev. Speaking to Canal Encarada’s Luis Coutinho recently, The Brazilian legend noted that Oliveira has matured over time and that he is mentally strong and motivated.
“He is a guy that rises from the ashes and wins the fight. I have seen him change and gain the maturation of a champion over time. He is mentally strong today and motivated. Charles Oliveira is a guy that I root for a lot. If I were to bet my money, I will bet on Charles,” Aldo noted.
Aldo was also asked about the recent trash talk from Khabib Nurmagomedov but Aldo insisted that he has always shown respect towards Khabib.
Aldo is all set to make his return against Merab Dvalishvili next at UFC 278. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak having secured wins over Marlon Vera, Pedro Munhoz and Rob Font. Aldo will be looking to continue his impressive run when he steps into the Octagon at UFC 278.
Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira hype builds up
The hype surrounding the fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira is at an all-time high. A long list of fighters has started taking sides for the showdown and at the same time, many fighters have come out questioning the credentials of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Recently, Dana White noted that Khabib Nurmagomedov cannot be considered as the Greatest of All Time as he retired too early. John McCarthy and former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis had a similar story to share about the Dagestani superstar.
As Khabib is expected to be the cage side for the fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, the possibility of Charles calling out Khabib cannot be ruled out as well.
