Jonathan Haggerty will get his chance at redemption when he challenges reigning ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nabil Anane in another blockbuster title fight added to ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on 16 November at Tokyo's Ariake Arena.
The 28-year-old British striker aims to reclaim the bantamweight Muay Thai throne he lost in devastating fashion to Superlek Kiatmoo9 via first-round knockout in 2024.
Haggerty's journey to this title shot showcases his versatility across multiple weight classes and striking disciplines. The London-based fighter initially conquered the flyweight division before moving up to bantamweight, where he defeated legendary Muay Thai fighter Nong-O Hama for the Muay Thai title.
His championship collection expanded when he defeated ONE Bantamweight MMA World Champion Fabricio Andrade to capture the vacant kickboxing title, establishing himself as a two-sport king. Despite losing his Muay Thai strap to Superlek, Haggerty retains his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship.
Standing in his path to redemption is the 21-year-old phenomenon Anane, whose rapid ascent has captivated the martial arts world.
The towering Algerian-Thai striker holds a 40-5 striking record and carries the distinction of being the youngest-ever WBC Muay Thai World Champion.
Anane's ONE Championship story began with adversity when he lost his debut to Superlek at age 19. However, the Team Mehdi Zatout representative transformed that setback into motivation, winning five consecutive bouts to earn an interim title opportunity.
His championship moment arrived at ONE 170 in January with a knockout victory over Scottish fighter Nico Carrillo for the interim title. The young fighter completed his redemption arc at ONE 172 in March, defeating Superlek convincingly after the then-champion missed weight and was stripped of his title.
Promoted to undisputed champion status in June, Anane will make his first title defense against one of the division's most accomplished former ruler.
