Rising Indian boxing prospect Nishant Dev trained with former world champion Shakur Stevenson ahead of his June 14 return to the ring at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Dev, 23, shared the news on social media, writing, “I spent years watching, learning, chasing your shadow — and today, I got to share the same light. Thank you for the rounds, the lessons, and the memory I’ll carry forever.”
Dev (1-0, 1 KO) is set to face California’s Josue Silva (3-2, 1 KO) in a six-round super welterweight bout. The matchup will be part of the undercard for the IBF super lightweight title fight between Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr., promoted by Matchroom Boxing.
The June 14 card, which will stream live on DAZN, also features Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (5-0, 2 KOs) against Japan’s Hironori Mishiro (17-1-1, 6 KOs) in a 12-round IBF lightweight title eliminator. In the heavyweight division, Alexis Barriere will face Roney Hines for the WBC Continental Americas title.
Dev made his professional debut earlier this year with a first-round knockout and is aiming to build momentum in the U.S. boxing scene.
