India has officially submitted a bid to host its first-ever WMC Intercontinental Title Belt event, aiming to bring the prestigious Muay Thai competition to Indian soil in 2026. The announcement was made on May 30 by Balkrishna Shetty, President of WMC India, during a joint meeting of the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) and the World Muaythai Council (WMC) held at Hotel Rox in Antalya.
The meeting featured delegates from over 90 countries and included a keynote address by IFMA Secretary General Stephan Fox, who highlighted the IFMA-WMC merger and unveiled plans for a global Netflix partnership to showcase Muay Thai through original content.
India’s bid marks a milestone in the country’s growing presence in combat sports and signals a potential shift in Muay Thai’s global map. If successful, the event would be the first WMC Intercontinental Title match held in India.
WMC India also revealed plans for a Muay Thai-based reality show set to stream on a major Indian OTT platform, aimed at bringing the sport to mainstream audiences.
“This is a proud moment for India,” said Shetty. “We are not only bidding to host a major international title event, but also launching a reality show to inspire a new generation of fighters and fans.”
India’s ambitious moves are gaining international attention, positioning the country as a rising hub for Muay Thai competition and entertainment.
