Team India set to compete at 2022 IMMAF Asian MMA Championship

The Indian MMA team is all set to compete at the 2022 IMMAF Asian MMA championship. Nine Indian fighters will be looking to bring home the medals for India at the event which happens from 27 October 2022 to 30 October 2022.

The event will happen at Dushanbe City in Tajikistan and will see more than 170 athletes from 13 nations. The event will be hosted by the Tajikistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (TAJMMAF) at the Kasri Tennis Va Machmaai Varzishi Obi.

India has a strong team this time around with athletes competing in Junior and Senior Weight categories.

Former Junior World Champion Mahboob Khan returns

Former Junior IMMAF World Champion Mahboob Khan will be looking to clinch a medal for India as he will be in action in the Flyweight Senior category. Mahboob, who has an extensive amateur background has already captured the attention of some major promotions.

Hailing from Hyderabad, Mahboob won the 2018 IMMAF Junior World Championship gold with a win over Ebrahim Darwish of Bahrain. He will be looking to earn his first Senior IMMAF medal this time around in Tajikistan.

Shabarish and Ramston look to continue momentum on the IMMAF stage

Shabarish Ayyanar and Ramston Rodrigues who secured historic wins for India at the previous IMMAF World Championships will also be in action at the event.

Shabarish is coming into the tournament on the back of a successful surgery and will be looking to keep his momentum alive when he steps into the cage. Ramston, on the other hand, has been training outside India and was also seen training with former UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Talent to watch out for

Tanishkaa Bhansali and Ankit Yalamanchili will be India’s presence in the Junior category. Tanishkaa will be competing in the Lightweight category while Ankit will be fighting in the Flyweight category.

Mayur Chandra Prasad, who is a multiple-time national champion, will fight in the Featherweight senior category while Varun Sanyal will be representing the nation at Welterweight. Mahboob Khan’s teammate and national champion Allam Ramakrishna will be the Bantamweight representative for India.

Khushboo Nishad will be competing in the Female Atomweight category at the Asian Championships. Khushboo will be looking to fill in the shoes of Vridhi Kumari who had secured a bronze medal for India at the IMMAF World Championships. Along with this, officials from India will also be part of the IMMAF team for officiating activities. MMA India Federation President Sharif Bapu, Nitin Singh, Vikash Sharma, Prasad Gaitonde and Kevin Alfred David will be taking up officiating duties as the Asian Championships.
