Undefeated Canadian Ben Tynan believes his freestyle wrestling background gives him a decisive advantage over former ONE Heavyweight MMA World Title challenger Kirill Grishenko when they clash at ONE Fight Night 34 on 2 August at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium.
The 31-year-old maintains a perfect finishing rate heading into his third ONE appearance, having submitted Kang Ji Won in his promotional debut.
Now he faces the 34-year-old Belarusian, who brings a 4-2 ONE record and extensive Greco-Roman wrestling credentials to their heavyweight showdown.
Tynan's confidence stems from his belief that no opponent can match his grappling prowess in mixed martial arts competition.
"No matter what, my grappling is always going to be my bread and butter. And I mean this: there's no one who can hang with me in an MMA grappling setting. I honestly think I'm the best in the world," Tynan declared.
The Canadian has studied Grishenko extensively and believes he's identified a crucial weakness in his opponent's game.
Despite respecting Grishenko's accomplishments, Tynan questions whether his wrestling style translates effectively to MMA.
"In a lot of his fights, no one has really gotten him on the ground for a long time. But I don't know. Not to be disrespectful, but I think Greco-Roman wrestlers are chumps. Sure, they got good upper bodies, but so much grappling is involved in the legs," he explained.
The stark contrast in wrestling styles sets up an intriguing technical battle, with Tynan's freestyle background emphasizing leg attacks and takedowns against Grishenko's upper-body focused Greco-Roman approach.
Tynan believes his well-rounded skill set will create multiple paths to victory against the experienced veteran.
"I'm going to finish him, and I think he knows that threat is coming to him, whether I take him on the ground or take him out on the feet. I feel like he is going to be very cautious of my weapons, and I'm going to land a lot of heavy shots," Tynan predicted.
