Former ONE lightweight champion Eduard Folayang recently left Team Lakay, his home gym for almost 16 years.
In a recent interview with Tom Taylor of South China Morning Post, Folayang shared that his decision to leave the team was a difficult one, but he needed to venture out of his comfort zone and seek fresh environments and training partners to level up his skills.
He clarified that there was nothing negative or controversial behind his decision and that he left on good terms with everyone at the gym.
Speaking further in the interview, Folayang noted that he will be training in the United States for some time.
“I'll go in the one event in the States. I'm looking forward on that first ONE championship event in the US and then probably I'll finish my my training camp in around California you know if I can be able to jump around some training facilities there,” he said.
He has already trained in the United States in the past. Before concluding the interview, Folayang also thanked his fans ad noted that he was grateful for the love he is receiving.
“I am very grateful to all those people who believe in us. Thank you for uh understanding our position and you know we just want to be grateful that you know the overwhelming support always encourages us to do more so we are very grateful and we hope that you continually support the martial arts in its finest,” he added in the interview.
Folayang is currently on a five-fight losing streak and will be looking to snap the same when he enters the ONE Championship circle again. His last win came against Tsogookhuu Amarsanaa back in November, 2019 prior to which he had suffered losses to Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki.
