ONE World Champion Denice Zamboanga Forced To Withdraw From Title Defence

ONE Women's Atomweight MMA World Champion Denice Zamboanga has been forced to withdraw from her highly anticipated title defence against Japanese challenger Ayaka Miura at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on 16 November at Tokyo's Ariake Arena.

The 28-year-old Filipina announced the heartbreaking news via social media, revealing that medical reasons have prevented her from competing in what was expected to be one of the card's marquee attractions.

"With a heavy heart, I need to share some difficult news. I was truly excited to defend my belt at ONE 173 against Ayaka. I know how strong and talented she is, and I was looking forward to testing myself against such a worthy challenger," Zamboanga wrote.

The withdrawal represents a significant setback for both fighters, as the matchup promised to deliver explosive action between two of the division's elite competitors.

Zamboanga's path to the undisputed queen has been marked by perseverance and opportunity.

The Filipina star captured the ONE Interim Women's Atomweight MMA World Title by defeating Alyona Rassohyna at ONE Fight Night 27 in January 2025.

She was originally scheduled to unify the belts with titleholder Stamp Fairtex, but when Stamp was forced to relinquish her title in May 2025 due to injuries, Zamboanga was promoted to undisputed champion.

Zamboanga expressed deep regret over the timing of her withdrawal and its impact on all parties involved.

"Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, I am unable to step into the Circle this time. It is heartbreaking for me to pull out of this match, and I want to sincerely apologize to my opponent Ayaka, to ONE Championship, to my sponsors, and to all the fans and supporters," she stated.

Despite the setback, Zamboanga remains determined to return to competition when her health permits.
