During the UFC event in Anaheim on Saturday night, UFC CEO Dana White briefly shed light on the status of former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor, who has been sidelined since July 2021 due to a leg injury sustained in his UFC 264 trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.

White revealed that McGregor will not be making an immediate return to the Octagon despite his prolonged absence. When asked about the impact of McGregor's financial status on his return to the UFC, White provided a partial response, avoiding further discussion on contract negotiations or potential opponents for McGregor's comeback.

In essence, White stated that the decision lies with McGregor himself, emphasizing that McGregor will return to competition when he feels ready. McGregor, who made history as the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts simultaneously, is currently focusing on other endeavors, including filming a movie and fulfilling press obligations.

"Anytime we get Conor, we'll be thrilled when he comes back and fights," White affirmed. "But, money complicates a lot of things. He just filmed a movie. He's gotta do the press for the movie and he's got obligations with that. And, he does want to fight this year, but we'll see what happens."

McGregor previously served as a coach alongside former UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler in the summer of 2023, sparking speculation about a potential fight between the two. However, as of press time, there have been no developments regarding the status of the matchup.
