Conor McGregor gives his take on Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul

Scheduled for this summer, the exhibition match between Paul and Tyson is set to captivate audiences at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, with an expected crowd of 80,000 spectators. Last Thursday, Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) formally announced the July 20 contest, sparking anticipation within the boxing community.

Paul, fresh off a dominant KO victory over Ryan Bourland, boasts an impressive roster of opponents, including UFC stars Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Ben Askren. However, his sole defeat came at the hands of Tommy Fury, signaling a test of his mettle against seasoned fighters.

Meanwhile, Tyson, renowned as the youngest heavyweight champion in history at the age of 20, returns to the ring following his 2020 exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. Despite his illustrious career, concerns linger over Tyson’s decision to engage in an exhibition match at 58 years old, particularly against a younger opponent like Paul.

McGregor, when asked about his thoughts on the bout, expressed skepticism, stating, “Oh jeez, It's a bit strange, you know. My interest is low. I don't know. I don't understand it. I wish well for Mike [Tyson].”

McGregor’s sentiments echo those of Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua’s promoter, who believes the exhibition could tarnish Tyson’s legacy and questions the wisdom of engaging in such a spectacle at Tyson’s age. Hearn emphasized the disparity between Tyson’s legendary status and the risk of losing to a relative newcomer like Paul.
