Rodtang Jitmuangnon may not have time to finish celebrating his astonishing 80-second knockout victory over Takeru Segawa during their flyweight super-fight at ONE 172.
At the post-event press conference, ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong revealed that “The Iron Man” may already have his next opponent lined up.
However, Sityodtong was not ready to close the book on the rivalry between the Thai and Japanese stars.
“I don't know why I always thought that Rodtang and Takeru were gonna fight more than one time. I spoke to Takeru, he wants to come back and fight Rodtang. He still wants the World Title in ONE,” Sityodtong said at the post-event press conference.
“So there's a lot of storylines here, but yes, I mean, I think Takeru will have to go regroup, because, you know, Rodtang delivered an outstanding, flawless performance.
“So I have to sit down with my team to figure out what's going to happen next for Takeru. But for Rodtang, I think Rodtang is going to fight [Jonathan] Haggerty next in Muay Thai.”
If that match comes to fruition, it will mark a trilogy match between Rodtang and “The General.”
While Rodtang is up 2-0 on the British striker, their two flyweight matches have been nothing short of spectacular. Rodtang won the first meeting in 2019 by unanimous decision before finishing Haggerty in 2020 by TKO.
Their shared history makes for a compelling trilogy that may come later this year.
“We're doing Haggerty versus Rodtang [for the] next one. But of course, Rodtang has many fights for him now. You know, he can call his shots now, he'll fight anybody. Rodtang will fight anybody,” Sityodtong said.
No matter what is next, Rodtang is set for a huge 2025 campaign that could lead him back to the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.
