As a result of ambiguity surrounding Ahmed Amir's comeback to compete, the lineal champion of the Lightweight division has had his title stripped by the BRAVE Combat Federation. Abdisalam Kubanychbek, the interim champion, will thus have the chance to unify the 155-pound world title when he faces Kamil Magomedov in the main event of BRAVE CF 69 on February 18 in Belgrade, Serbia.

In a fight that was a contender for Fight of the Year back in June 2022 at BRAVE CF 59, Kubanychbek defeated Olzhas Eskaraev to earn the provisional belt. Since then, he has advocated for a match against Amir, whose condition is still unknown, causing BRAVE Combat Federation to formally launch the division.
The fight between Kamil Magomedov and Akhmed Shervaniev at BRAVE CF 62 garnered a nomination for Fight of the Year at the 2022 BRAVE CF End of Year Awards, hence Shervaniev was initially next in line. Kamil was the natural replacement for Shervaniev, who was injured and unable to take the unification battle.
