Luan Santiago (16-6) of Brazil and Mihail Cotruta (13-2) of Moldova square off in the intriguing Super Lightweight BRAVE CF 60 co-main event. Both fighters are known for their aggressive, offensive styles.
Given that Cotruta currently has a record of nine KO/TKOs and that Santiago won the KO of the Year award in 2019 you can expect an exciting bout that surely puts its hand up as a "Fight of the Night" contender.
Cotruta challenged his opponent during a Live Instagram Interview by asserting that both men had obligations to BRAVE CF and the supporters.
“Luan, I hope you had a good training camp and that you are ready because I am not used to easy fights. I hope it will be a hard fight. We have a big responsibility owed to BRAVE CF and the fans. We are getting this big chance and we must prove why we deserve this,” said Cotruta, alluding to this bout potentially being the Number One Contender fight for the Super Lightweight title which is currently owned by the undisputed champion Eldar Eldarov.
Aside from their desire to get the job done, both fighters will want to make a statement on the large BRAVE CF 60 stage since it might give their Super Lightweight campaigns fresh life after recent setbacks. Since his previous victory in the BRAVE CF cage in 2019, when he battled Russia's Gadzhimusa Gadzhiev to a split decision victory at BRAVE CF 29, Santiago has been passionate about demonstrating his value in the new division.
After a disappointing start at BRAVE CF 54 and the disappointment of his injury-forced withdrawal from BRAVE CF 58, Cotruta is yet to claim a victory in the fastest-growing promotion in the world.
“I have nothing but respect for him (Luan), we are doing the same job, so let’s make a very good fight. I pray there will be no injuries, no problems, nothing. I just want to go and do my job, and I wish the same for him. It’s nothing personal, but mark my words, I will do all in my power to make this a “Fight of the Night match,” Cotruta said, in his response to Santiago.
In the meantime, Cotruta gently brought up the champion's most recent fighting diary when questioned about his thoughts on facing the current Super Lightweight champion Eldar Eldarov, implying that it might work against him.
“Look, he is a champion, he is a good guy, he is currently the best in his division now, but he has not fought in almost two years,” highlights Cotruta. Eldarov’s last bout was in January 2021 when he beat Leonardo Mafra via doctor’s stoppage in the first round of their BRAVE CF 46 championship bout.
“This big pause is a problem. The next time he fights, this will be an issue for him as it’s not okay to be out so long. But he is the champion, he is tough, he is a wrestler, he goes forward all the time, just like me. I like this about him. Right now, we focus on Santiago. I am pretty sure it will be a great fight. I believe it will be “Fight of the Night”. With God’s help, we get that win and after that, we go for that Championship," said Cotruta in his closing statement.
The Master of Sports in Combat Sambo is not one for working overtime and loves dispatching his opponents very early with a 69 percent finish ratio on the stand-up.
A win for Cotruta will not only put the division on notice and shock the world of MMA, but it will also justify the Moldovan’s contendership in the Super Lightweight division.
