Bhawna Sharma and Yatri Patel secured medals for India at the U22 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok on Sunday after delivering dominant performances in their respective quarterfinal bouts.
In the women’s 48kg category, Sharma cruised to victory with a unanimous decision over Vietnam’s Ngoc Linh Chi Ngo. Patel followed with a confident showing in the women’s 57kg division, also earning a unanimous verdict against Keerththana Uthayakumar of Sri Lanka to book her place in the semifinals.
The U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships are being held concurrently, offering a platform for India’s emerging boxing talent to compete against elite opponents from across Asia. India has fielded a 40-member contingent—20 boxers in each category—featuring a balanced mix of established competitors and rising stars from the domestic circuit.
Meanwhile, Tanu narrowly missed adding to India’s medal count after falling short against Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang in the women’s 54kg quarterfinals.
