Indian Muay Thai fighter Anil Mehta has reached a remarkable milestone, completing 50 professional Muay Thai bouts overseas - a rare achievement for any Indian striker competing entirely on international soil.
Now 37 years old, Mehta began his Muay Thai journey at the age of 27 after serving as a police officer in Himachal Pradesh. A decade later, he stands as one of India’s most experienced international Muay Thai competitors.
Out of his 50 professional Muay Thai fights - all held outside India - Mehta has secured 29 wins, suffered 20 losses, and recorded one draw. Notably, he captured 10 regional stadium title belts in Thailand, competing at reputed venues such as Patong Combat, Patong Fight Night, Patong Stadium, and Phuket Champion promotions.
In addition to his Muay Thai success, Mehta also won a kickboxing title belt in Malaysia in 2017.
Including amateur Muay Thai and kickboxing contests, Mehta has competed in a total of 66 international fights. He has represented India at three World Championships - in Belarus, Mexico, and Bangkok, Thailand -as well as two World Games in Australia and Korea. He also competed in three Asian Championships held in Macau (China), Abu Dhabi (UAE), and Thailand.
Reflecting on his journey, Mehta said, “I started Muay Thai when I was 27 and now I am 37. I wish my journey would give motivation to the upcoming generation.”
His decade-long commitment to competing abroad highlights not only personal resilience but also the growing presence of Indian athletes on the global Muay Thai stage.
