Indian MMA fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next for Angad Bisht, one of the country’s top fighters. After his impressive performances on the Road to UFC, Bisht has been vocal about wanting a rematch with his last opponent. While the MMA world speculates on his next move, he sat down exclusively with LockerRoom India to talk about an often-overlooked part of a fighter’s journey—nutrition, weight cutting, and recovery.
In an exclusive interview, Bisht shared insights into how diet, supplementation, and smart weight-cutting have helped him elevate his performance.
For an MMA fighter, every advantage counts, and Bisht understands that proper nutrition can make or break a fight camp.
"Good nutrition and the right supplements help me train harder, recover faster, and perform better in the cage. It makes a big difference in energy levels and endurance," he said.
Early in his career, weight cutting was a trial-and-error process, but experience has taught him to approach it more strategically.
"At the start, I didn’t know much about weight cutting. Over time, I learned how to do it safely with the right diet, hydration, and planning. Now, I focus on cutting weight smartly, not just quickly."
Training camps demand a strict and structured diet, with every meal calculated to maximize performance.
"During fight camp, my meals are more planned—high protein, clean carbs, and good fats. Everything is measured. Off-season, I still eat clean, but I allow myself a little more flexibility."
Despite his discipline, post-fight celebrations allow for some well-earned indulgence.
"Anything I’ve been craving during fight camp! Usually, a good burger or a big plate of Indian food."
Unlike some fighters who experiment with diet trends, Bisht prefers a traditional, well-balanced approach.
"I keep it simple—balanced meals with good carbs, protein, and fats. No extreme diets, just what works best for my body."
Bisht acknowledges that Indian athletes often struggle with access to high-quality nutrition and believes more awareness is needed.
"There needs to be more awareness and access to better-quality supplements and whole foods. Athletes also need proper guidance from experts on nutrition."
One of the biggest mistakes he sees among Indian MMA fighters is a lack of emphasis on nutrition.
"Not taking nutrition seriously enough. Many focus only on training but don’t fuel their bodies the right way."
Recovery is another aspect that fighters often neglect, but Bisht has found success with techniques like breathing exercises, cold plunges, and proper hydration.
Unlike many fighters, Bisht doesn’t have superstitions before stepping into the cage.
"No superstitions. I keep it simple—meditation, deep breathing, and focusing on my game plan."
Having competed in multiple weight classes, he believes he has now found the right division for his body and skill set.
"I feel comfortable in my current weight class. It allows me to be strong, fast, and perform at my best without extreme weight cuts."
As for his future, Bisht remains determined to climb the ranks.
"I’m focused on improving every day. I want the rematch, but I’m ready for any challenge that brings me closer to my goal."
Bisht credits Myprotein for helping him stay on top of his diet and recovery during intense fight camps.
"Myprotein has been great for keeping my nutrition on point. Their supplements help with muscle recovery, energy, and overall performance."
With his growing experience and focus on refining his craft, Angad Bisht continues to represent the rise of Indian MMA.
