Amir Aliakbari produced a great comeback story in 2022 after suffering two difficult losses in 2021, but he is convinced it won't stop there.

The Iranian superstar made a triumphant comeback when he stopped previous divisional king Brandon Vera in the first round at ONE 164 earlier this month. In August, he stopped former ONE Heavyweight World Title challenger Mauro Cerilli with a second-round TKO.

Vera was a Filipino-American who had long been a dominant force in ONE's heavyweight division, thus the TKO victory over her was very satisfying.

Before facing "The Truth" in Manila, Aliakbari completed his research, and it paid off with his biggest victory to date.

With his first-round thrashing of Vera, Aliakbari has now recorded two victories in a row over the top two heavyweights in the category.

The former world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling feels that he is now finally demonstrating his skills in MMA, and he intends to continue his ascent in a devastating manner.

“This year, ONE showcased some good heavyweights and all of them are good fighters, but I have shown that my level is much higher than everyone else’s. I have gathered myself and I am going forward with all my strength to destroy and knock out my opponents,” he said in an interview with ONE Championship.

The rise of Aliakbari coincides with an exciting period for ONE's Middle Eastern growth.

The organisation recently signed a broadcast agreement with beIN SPORTS, enabling it to reach more fans in the region, and the Iranian might help lead that effort in the years to come thanks to his enormous popularity.

“I am the best and most famous fighter in the Middle East, and when ONE holds their first card in the Middle East, you will all understand what I mean!,” he added.
