Bangkok's legendary Lumpinee Stadium played host to another memorable night of combat sports action on Saturday, July 12, as ONE Fight Night 33 showcased eight compelling matchups spanning both MMA and Muay Thai.
The evening's marquee attraction saw Allycia Hellen Rodrigues cement her status as the division's undisputed queen with a dominant performance against Sweden's Johanna Persson.
The Brazilian champion methodically broke down her challenger across three rounds, utilizing her signature arsenal of step-in elbows and punishing body kicks while controlling the clinch exchanges.
The end came in dramatic fashion during round three when Rodrigues connected with a crisp left hook that sent Persson to the canvas. Though the challenger gamely returned to her feet, Rodrigues wasted no time in closing the show – a brutal body shot followed by another left hook sealed the deal at 0:59 of round three.
The performance not only extended Rodrigues' record to 35-7 but also earned her a US$50,000 performance bonus from ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong. The co-main event promised fireworks between Thailand's Shadow Singha Mawynn and Algeria's Mohamed Younes Rabah, and it delivered early drama. Shadow showcased his counter-striking prowess in the opening round, perfectly timing a right hand as Rabah pressed forward with a combination. The Thai fighter's evasive movement and precision created the bout's defining moment as he sent the Algerian to the deck.
Unfortunately, the contest took an unexpected turn in round two when an accidental eye poke from Shadow rendered Rabah unable to continue. After consultation with the ringside physician, officials had no choice but to wave off the bout and declare it a no contest – a disappointing end to what had been shaping up as an exciting battle.
