Rising ONE Championship strawweight star Aliff Sor Dechapan will look to solidify his position as the division's top contender when he squares off against Moroccan powerhouse Elmehdi "The Sniper" El Jamari at ONE Fight Night 32.
The showdown takes place in Bangkok at Lumpinee Stadium on Saturday, 7 June, with audiences witnessing what could be a title eliminator in the strawweight Muay Thai division.
The 21-year-old Malaysian-Thai enters the bout riding a three-fight winning streak and burning with desire to challenge reigning champion Prajanchai PK Saenchai for the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title.
His opponent presents a formidable test, as El Jamari announced his arrival in spectacular fashion by delivering a brutal knockout victory over Thongpoon PK Saenchai in his promotional debut.
The stakes have motivated Aliff to push his training regimen to new heights ahead of this crucial encounter that could determine his championship future.
"For this fight, I'm 100 percent ready, and I've been fully committed to my training. It's been a tough camp. But I know I can win this fight, and I have full confidence in my ability to do so," Aliff said.
Victory would position Aliff for the title opportunity he's been relentlessly chasing, and he's supremely confident about his chances of earning that coveted shot at championship gold.
"I'm very confident that if I win this fight, I will get the chance to fight Prajanchai for his belt," Aliff said.
Adding intrigue to the matchup is Aliff's previous encounter with Elmehdi's older brother, Zakaria, whom he faced last August at ONE Fight Night 24 where Aliff demolished his opponent in under two minutes.
Now facing the younger sibling, Aliff acknowledges that Elmehdi presents an upgraded challenge compared to the brother he previously dismantled in devastating fashion.
"Yeah, I've knocked out his brother. I think both of them have the same style. But, in my opinion, Elmehdi is much more powerful than Zakaria. He's much more complete than his brother," the Malaysian-Thai said.
While recognising similarities in their boxing-heavy approaches, Aliff has identified key areas where Elmehdi surpasses his older brother in terms of overall fighting ability.
"Speed, punching power, and his ability to throw combinations – from what I've seen, these three things make Elmehdi a more dangerous fighter," Aliff said.
With title implications hanging in the balance, fans can expect an explosive encounter between two of the division's most exciting knockout artists when they collide inside the ring.
ONE Fight Night 32 will be broadcast live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Select 2 at 6:30 a.m. India Standard Time (IST) on Saturday, 7 June.
