Azerbaijani striker Akif Guluzada will face his toughest test in ONE Championship when he challenges #5-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender Jaosuayai Mor Krungthepthonburi at ONE Fight Night 36 on 4 October.
The 20-year-old Team Mehdi Zatout representative recognizes the magnitude of this opportunity against the highly ranked Thai veteran.
"I know everyone wants this fight. I watch TikTok, everyone, Thai fans, want this fight with me and Jaosuayai because he is a good fighter, and me too. This is a great fight," Guluzada said.
Guluzada brings a perfect 4-0 ONE Championship record to this crucial flyweight Muay Thai bout, having earned his life-changing six-figure main roster contract through three consecutive victories at ONE Friday Fights. His most recent outing saw him secure a unanimous decision win over Sean Climaco in May this year.
With a 19-3 career record, the unbeaten Azerbaijani understands that victory could propel him into the rankings by taking Jaosuayai's coveted spot.
The 24-year-old Thai fighter presents a formidable challenge, entering on a five-fight winning streak that includes a spectacular 52-second knockout of Nakrob Fairtex. His ranking and momentum make him the most dangerous opponent Guluzada has faced.
Despite the stakes, Guluzada maintains respect for his opponent's abilities.
"I like Jaosuayai. He's good and not the same type of fighter (as my other opponents). I respect him. He's dangerous because he has good timing," the young Azerbaijani acknowledged.
When asked about his advantages heading into this career-defining bout, Guluzada pointed to his technical versatility.
"My speed and my boxing. I am technical. My technique — I have technical boxing footwork too. I don't know. It's a surprise. [A knockout?] Sure, why not?" he stated with confidence.
ONE Fight Night 36 will be broadcast live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Select 2 at 6:30 a.m. IST on Saturday, 4 October.
