Ajay Singh secured a decisive victory in the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections on Thursday, winning the Presidential race with 40 votes against challenger Jaslal Pradhan’s 26. The result reaffirms Singh’s leadership and extends his tenure at the helm of Indian boxing.
The elections, which involved 34 state associations representing 66 votes, also filled other key positions, including Secretary General, Treasurer and Vice Presidents.
In the race for Secretary General, Pramod Kumar of Uttar Pradesh won with 36 votes against Digvijay Singh, the former Treasurer, who received 30. The Treasurer’s post was decided in a three-way contest, with Pon Baskaran emerging victorious with 28 votes, defeating Anil Kumar Bohidar and R. Gopu.
Following his victory, Singh said the result was “a reaffirmation of the trust and faith my colleagues from across the country have placed in me.” He credited the federation’s progress to collective efforts and thanked Fairuz Mohamed, Chairperson of the BFI Interim Committee and Observer from World Boxing, for ensuring a free and fair election.
“This victory is not just a mandate, but a recognition of the relentless work we have done together to take Indian boxing forward,” Singh said. “With the World Championship and World Cup ahead, our singular focus will be on enabling our boxers to deliver their best, bring home medals, and make India proud.”
Singh also emphasized his commitment to grassroots development, pledging to strengthen junior and youth programs and build on India’s growing global presence in the sport.
The conclusion of the Interim Committee’s tenure marks the beginning of a new phase for the federation. Under Singh’s leadership, BFI has overseen the smooth conduct of national championships and international successes, helping Indian boxing achieve new heights.
