UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik took place live from the Apex Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, August 9 and was headlined by the Heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik which Lewis won via a second-round stoppage. Below are the post-fight quotes from the event.

Derrick Lewis:

“He did exactly what we thought he would do. He fought exactly like we thought he would, so it worked in my favor. Everything worked just the way we talked about. I believe I have improved a lot, but I’m still not where I need to be. That’s why I said I need to lose at least 15, 20 more pounds, then come back in and I’m going to be a problem. If I get there and dominate whoever my next opponent is, then I believe I’ll be next for the title.”

Chris Weidman:

“I’m super grateful that the UFC is allowing us to work and put on a show for everybody. I know so many people out there that really want to start working and they can’t, so I’m just super grateful to be in the position that I am at to do something that I love to do and to provide for my family. It feels good. I feel like I’m restarting my career and I’m really grateful to have that opportunity. I feel refreshed and renewed. I’m super excited about the future.”

Beneil Dariush

“My friend’s son, Billy, sent me a message on Instagram and he was like: ‘Hey, you should try to knock him out with a spinning back fist. I’ve been playing the video game and in the game you do it really well’. And I was like ‘I’ll think about it, buddy’. He goes: ‘Try it two times. If it doesn’t work, it’s ok’. And here we are, so, Bill, I love you buddy.”

Yana Kunitskaya

“It’s been a hard time for everyone with this pandemic and a lot changed in my life. I was stuck in Brazil for six months, then I moved to Florida. It was hard, but I’m so happy with this opportunity and for being able to fight. I’m really happy and I want to thank Julija for taking this fight on short notice. Everyone thinks I’m a striker because I started with striking, but I think I have a good potential in wrestling. I’ll try to improve in this part and be more well-rounded. Maybe in the future it will be my strongest area.”

Darren Stewart

“My first submission. It means a lot to me. People say I’m a striker, ‘take Darren down’, ‘Darren can’t grapple’… I’ve been working on my grappling, but no one has seen it yet. I’m happy I finally got to show it to the world. Don’t sleep on me, I can tap you out.”
