UFC is all set to return to Fight Island in January. The announcement was made by Dana White last day through his Instagram page.

The UFC president announced that the promotion’s first three events of 2021 will happen at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi with the first event scheduled to take place on January 16, 2021.

It will then be followed by an event on January 20, 2021, after which UFC will conclude the run on January 23, 2021, with UFC 257 headlined by Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Max Holloway vs. Calvin Kattar will serve as the headliner for the January 16 event when Khamzat Chimaev vs. Leon Edwards will be the main event for the January 20 card.

McGregor will be making his return to the cage after his first-round stoppage win over Donald Cerrone when Poirier is also coming off a win having defeated Dan Hooker. Max Holloway, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from his defeat to Alexander Volkanovski when Calvin Kattar has an opportunity to push his case for the title shot.

Leon Edwards, who is making his return after a long gap, will have his hands full when he fights Khamzat Chimaev who has been one of the biggest success stories of 2020 for the UFC. The promotion is expected to announce more fights for the events in the coming weeks.

UFC had a successful run in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic and had produced multiple events from Yas Island. They will be looking to continue the impressive run into 2021 as well by kick-starting the year with three blockbuster cards.
