UFC returned with UFC 271 today and as expected, the card was delivered big time. In the main event, Israel Adesanya went up against Robert Whittaker with the UFC Middleweight title on the line. The champion had a comfortable outing in the first round and was dictating the fight. Whittaker did land a takedown in the second round but failed to produce anything big from the same. The distance management of Adesanya was proving to be the major difference in the fight. Whittaker once again tried to take the proceedings to the ground in the third round but was fended off by Adesanya.

Whittaker landed a takedown in the fourth and managed to take the back of Adesanya but once again, Adesanya fended off the attack successfully and brought the fight back to a standing position. A similar story unfolded in the fifth round and in the end, the judges ruled the fight in favor of Israel Adesanya via a decision.

In the co-main event, Tai Tuivasa secured a huge knockout win over Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa had a slow first round as he was taken down by Lewis. The Heavyweight, however, staged a great comeback in the second round and knocked out Lewis with an elbow. With the win, Tuivasa is now on a five-fight winning streak with all five wins coming via either KO or TKO.

Jared Cannonier made a huge statement in his fight against Derek Brunson and secured a second-round TKO victory. In the post-fight interview, Cannonier called for the Middleweight title fight as well. He is now on a two-fight winning streak and has won five of his last six fights with the lone loss coming against Robert Whittaker.

Elsewhere, Renato Moicano submitted Alexander Hernandez in the second round with a rear-naked choke to improve his winning streak to two fights.

The opening fight in the main card saw Bobby Green delivering an excellent performance against Nasrat Haqparast to take home a unanimous decision victory. Green landed 188 significant strikes in the fight which is now the third best in the UFC Lightweight division for a single fight.

In the preliminary card, Casey O’Neill picked up a decision win over Roxanne Modafferi in what was Roxanne’s final fight of an MMA Career which started back in 2003. O’Neill landed 229 significant strikes in the fight which also became a new record in the UFC Flyweight division.

Andre Arlovski secured yet another huge victory as he edged out Jared Vanderaa to take home a split decision victory. With the win, Arlovski improved his winning streak to three fights and has won five out of his last six fights.
