UFC rolled out UFC 270 today. The event was headlined by the heavyweight title clash between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane and as advertised, the fight delivered big time.
Ngannou started chasing down Gane from the start itself and landed a major body shot in the second minute of the first round. Gane recovered well and started mounting some defense from his side as the round progressed. Gane was causing problems to Ngannou with his movement in the second round when the champion was looking for that big knockout punch although he was visibly slowing down. Ngannou landed a huge slam in the third round and ended up in side control. Ngannou almost got the back of Gane but the challenger showed resilience to escape. Ngannou closed the round on a strong note as he landed another takedown in the last minute.
Ngannou continued to walk down Gane in the fourth round and got himself the third takedown of the fight in the third minute of the round. The champion then managed to stay in the dominant position till the round ended. Gane had the pressure to finish in the fifth and landed a takedown early in the round. Ngannou, to his credit, reversed the position with a sweep and ended up on top of Gane. He managed to stay on top till the end of the fight and took home a decision win and retained the title.
The co-main event between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno proved to be an exciting showdown as the Flyweight standouts delivered yet another instant classic which saw Figueiredo winning the Title. Figueiredo showed some excellent composure and gameplan when compared to his previous outings with Moreno and took home a decision victory after five action-packed rounds. After the fight, the newly crowned champion called for a fourth fight with Moreno in Mexico.
Andre Fialho and Michel Pereira delivered an exciting Welterweight contest that went the complete distance. Fialho opened the fight strongly and had a comfortable first round. Pereira, however, staged a great comeback in the remaining two rounds to take home a decision win.
In the opening fight of the main card, Michael Morales secured an impressive first-round TKO win against Trevin Giles to remain undefeated. Said Nurmagomedov also secured a first-round finish in the main event when he submitted Cody Stamann in just 47 seconds to earn a win and the third-fastest submission in the UFC Bantamweight division.
