UFC 268 Full Results: Kamaru Usman and Rose Namajunas retain titles

UFC returned with UFC 268 today and the event lived up to the expectations. In the main event, Kamaru Usman continued his dominance in the UFC Welterweight division and retained the title with a win over Colby Covington. 

Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington opened the main event on cautious notes. Both the champion and the challenger played it safe till the second half of the second round when Usman managed to drop Covington. Covington, to his credit, survived the onslaught and was saved by the bell. Usman piled on the pressure in the third round and was clearly having the upper hand despite Covington turning the tide in his favor in the closing seconds of the round.

Covington had some success in the fourth round on the feet. He carried forward this momentum into the fifth and landed some big uppercuts. Usman managed to keep his composure and steered confidently to the closing seconds. When the scorecards came out, the fight was ruled in favor of Usman via a unanimous decision. 

Rose Namajunas retains the title

In the co-main event, Rose Namajunas managed to get the better of Zhang Weili after a five-round to-and-fro battle. Zhang had the upper hand in the early exchanges but Namajunas staged a great comeback and banked in on her ground skills to get the edge on the scorecard along with a split decision win.

Marlon Vera secured one of the biggest wins in his professional MMA career when he stopped veteran Frankie Edgar. Vera stopped Edgar with a front kick in the third round and improved his winning streak to two fights. Edgar, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak having lost his last fight to Cory Sandhagen.

Shane Burgos and Billy Quarantillo had a three-round war which was ruled in favor of Burgos in the end. The fight had so much action that it put the record for the most significant strikes in the division with more than 700 thrown between the two fighters.  

In the opening bout of the main card, Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler delivered an instant classic. Gaethje who had a slow start in the first round came back strongly in the later stages of the fight to take home a unanimous decision victory and called for a title fight against Charles Oliveira.
