UFC returned to pay-per-view with UFC 252 today and the event was headlined by the trilogy showdown between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.

Stipe Miocic wins the trilogy against Daniel Cormier

Cormier made use of his wrestling skills early-on in the first-round itself but Miocic managed to absorb minimal damage before the action was cut-off due to an eye poke from Cormier. The champion then went on to close the round on a strong note by landing some good strikes although Cormier landed a huge blow in the closing seconds.

Both fighters went ahead with a cautious approach in the second round and made use of the opportunities that opened up in between. Miocic almost got a stoppage in the closing seconds of the round but Cormier was saved by the bell. Miocic had the upper hand throughout the third-round and an eye-poke from Miocic which was not seen by the referee compromised Cormier a bit as he headed into the fourth.

Miocic got some good amount of clinch-control time to his name in the fifth-round which gave him the edge on the scorecard. In the end, Miocic was ruled as the winner via Unanimous Decision.

Marlon Vera gets a huge win

The co-main event between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera had a first-round finish. O’Malley hurt his leg in the opening minutes of the round and tried to survive on the same. Vera, however, smelled blood and went on to finish the fight on the ground with some solid strikes.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik got back to winning ways when he stopped veteran Junior Dos Santos in the second-round of their Heavyweight showdown.  With the win, he improved his professional MMA record to 11-1 with his only defeat coming against Francis Ngannou.

Pineda makes excellent comeback

Daniel Pineda made an excellent comeback to the UFC and picked up a second-round TKO win against Herbert Burns. His last fight in the UFC came back in 2014 after which he had competed across multiple promotions.

In the opening fight of the main card, Merab Dvalishvili got a unanimous decision victory against John Dodson in an exciting bantamweight showdown. With the win, he improved his winning streak to five fights.

In the prelims, Vinc Pichel got a unanimous decision victory against Jim Miller when Virna Jandiroba got the better of Felice Herrig via a first-round submission.
