UFC 245 turned out to be one of the best UFC events of 2019 and saw a string of exciting fights that lived up to the hype.

In the main event of the show, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington went to a five-round war which ended in favour of Usman with just 50 seconds left in the clock. Both Colby and Usman had their moments throughout the fight and it was pretty close heading into the last round.

According to Daniel Cormier, one judge had it 3-1 in favour of Usman while another judge had it 3-1 in favour of Colby. The third judge had scored 2-2 heading into the fifth meaning that it could have gone any way.

However, Usman made sure that the scorecards are not required when he secured a TKO although Colby later went on to claim that it was a poor stoppage.

Alexander Volkanovski gets the better of Max Holloway while Amanda Nunes retains

In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski delivered a solid performance to outclass Max Holloway and win the Featherweight title. Volkanovski had a clear game plan built around leg kicks which neutralized Holloway’s movement. Volkanovski also made sure that Holloway was not getting settled in the pocket where the Hawaiian is known to dominate. After winning the title, Volkanovski promised that he will be a great champion.

Amanda Nunes retained her title against Germaine de Randamie after an exciting fight that lasted five rounds. While Nunes is known for her striking abilities, it was her BJJ skills that came into play in this title defense. The Brazilian made sure that the title was staying with her and totally dominated GDR on the ground.

Bantamweight venture of Jose Aldo and the return of Urijah Faber

Both the bantamweight venture of Jose Aldo and the return of Urijah Faber had anti-climaxes at UFC 245. Marlon Moraes and Jose Aldo went the distance in their fight and in the end, the judges ruled in favour of Moraes via split decision. The decision, however, evoked some major questions from the fans.

Urijah Faber, meanwhile, got stopped by Petr Yan in the main card opener. Faber was bloodied up by the Russian and showed some heart to continue fighting. However, it did not go long as the fight was stopped in the third round.
