Stamp Fairtex has her eyes firmly set on the ONE Atomweight title and Angela Lee.
The 24-year-old won the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix this past weekend by submitting Indian MMA star Ritu Phogat and is now set to lock horns with champion Angela Lee with the title on the line in 2022.
When the cage door shuts, Stamp and Lee will be rivals gunning for the top prize but beyond that, Stamp sees Lee as an idol that she looks up to.
“It’s a great opportunity to fight with someone who is my idol, and I dream of standing there [across from her]. When the fight happens, I will have to get myself back in the gym, train, and improve more on my skills. And train even more to get better conditioning,” Stamp said in her recent interview with ONE Championship.
Stamp has had her taste of championship glory in the promotion. She is a former ONE Atomweight Muay-Thai and Kickboxing champion and a win against Lee could put her in the history books as she will also have the MMA title on her resume. But dethroning Lee is easier said than done and Stamp admits it.
“I wouldn’t say that I am one of the top fighters or the best. There are a lot of things that I can improve on to become a better martial artist in the future,” she added.
Though the respect will be there, it is the title that matters the most to Stamp and she is not shying away from expressing her intentions.
“Angela, I hope you train really hard and have a good training camp for this fight. Because I’m very fresh, and I’m ready for combat. I will try and take that belt from you,” Stamp concluded.
