The European Sambo Championships will now take place in Serbia instead of Russia. The announcement was made last day and earlier, The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) had noted that they will not be holding any events in Russia or Belarus due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The European championships were scheduled to take place in Yekaterinburg in May and it will now take place in Novi Sad in Serbia in September. Apart from the Senior Championships, the event will also have youth and junior events.

This will be the second time that Serbia is hosting the European Sambo Championships as the country had earlier hosted the event in 2006. The country was also the venue for the 2020 World Championships as well.

Russia has been facing sporting sanctions ever since its aggression against Ukraine. The country has already received bans from a long list of sporting organizations and the change of venue for the European Sambo Championships is expected to be a big blow for them as well.
