Rodtang vs. Demetrious Johnson: Everything You Need to Know About the Fight

ONE X is going to host a clash of the worlds as MMA star Demetrious Johnson will lock horns with Muay-Thai sensation Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a Muay-Thai and MMA Hybrid Rules Fight.

What is the background of the event?

The Match will be one of the major attractions for ONE X which is the 10th-anniversary special show of ONE Championship. ONE Championship held their first event back on 3 September 2011 and it was named ONE: Champion vs. Champion.

The Card, which was held in the Singapore Indoor Stadium, was headlined by the Lightweight contest between Filipino MMA star Eduard Folayang and South Korea’s A Sol Kwon. A welterweight contest between Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Phil Baroni had served as the co-main event.

ONE Championship went on to host close to 200 events after this and will be celebrating their tenth year with ONE X.

Road to the Fight: Rodtang Jitmuangnon

Rodtang is hands down one of the most notable Muay-Thai fighters out there and is the reigning ONE Championship Flyweight Muay-Thai Champion. He has three successful title defenses on his resume as well. He was a champion at the Omnoi Stadium and Max Muay-Thai as well and has won multiple Fight of the Year Awards at the Rajadamnern Stadium. Over the course of his career, Rodtang has had more than 250 wins in Muay-Thai from nearly 300 fights.

Road to the Fight: Demetrious Johnson

Considered to be one of the best MMA Fighters in the world, Demetrious Johnson recently joined ONE Championship after a memorable run in the UFC. He holds a professional record of 30-4-1 to his name in Mixed Martial Arts and is a former UFC Flyweight Champion. During his run as champion in UFC, Johnson had eleven successful title defenses under his name. He also holds a string of records to his name in the promotion.

After joining ONE, DJ went on to win the 2019 ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix to secure a title shot against the ONE Flyweight Champion Adriano Moraes. The title fight, however, did not go as planned for Johnson as he suffered a stoppage defeat.

What are the rules for Rodtang vs. Demetrious Johnson?

Rodtang vs. Demetrious Johnson will be fought under Muay Thai and MMA hybrid rules. The fight will be of Four Rounds of three minutes each with rounds alternating between Muay-Thai and MMA Rules. The first round will be under Muay-Thai Rules.

• Round 3: Muay-Thai Rules (3 Minutes)
• Round 4: MMA Rules (3 Minutes)

Has such a Hybrid fight happened before?

The most notable and recent Hybrid rules fight would be that of Yuichiro Nagashima and Shinya Aoki in DREAM FC in 2010. It was a hybrid fight under Kickboxing and MMA rules which opened with a three-minute kickboxing round. This was followed by a five-minute MMA Rules second round in which Aoki was stopped by Nagashima. As the fight was under exhibition rules, the loss currently does not reflect on the record of Aoki.

When is the fight happening?
